Scripture and Parenting

Sometimes parenting seems so hard and unrewarding. Yet, the next minute it becomes easy and fulfilling! What gives with that? Same parents, same kids, different result! I think Einstein called things like that crazy. Parenting is not crazy though, it’s just that both parents and kids are humans and need help from a Higher Being!
I was refreshed by the first scriptural reading this morning (Zephaniah 2:3; 3:12-13). In it the prophet asks us to seek the Lord, be humble, observe the law, and take refuge in the name of the Lord. “They (we) shall do no wrong and speak no lies; nor shall there be found in their mouths a deceitful tongue; they shall pasture and couch their flocks with none to disturb them.”
I read that to say if we seek God and live a life of virtue no one will disturb (harm) us. When applied to parenting it means that as long as we “seek God, do no wrong, speak no lies”, our parenting will be more fulfilling because our kids will become like us. It still won’t always be easy, but nothing worth while ever is!
