When you come to the end of a perfect day

When you come to the end of a perfect day

After living through the Covid pandemic, trying to teach your kids from home, working your job beside them, clean, cooking and not being able to go out to eat, or even see your friends, it might be well to remember what Grandma did on a perfect day, and have a good belly laughGrandma's Rocking Chair Art Print by Susanne Van Hulst

No room for Grandma in this chair! When you come to the end of a perfect day

Grandmother on a winter’s day
Milked the cows and fed them hay
Slopped the hogs, saddled the mule
And got the children off to school;

Did a washing, mopped the floors
Washed the windows, and did some chores
Cooked a dish of home-dried fruit
Pressed her husband’s Sunday suit

Swept the parlor, made the bed
Baked a dozen loaves of bread,
Split some firewood, and lugged it in,
Enough to fill the kitchen bin

Cleaned the lamps and put in oil,
Stewed some apples she thought would spoil
Cooked a supper that was delicious
And afterwards, washed up all the dishes

Fed the cat and sprinkled the clothes
Mended a basketful of hose;
Then opened the organ and began to play
“When you come to the end of a perfect day”

To make my women readers feel better (if the LOL didn’t help,): When Grandma was playing the organ, Grandpa was in his rocker singing Tom T. Hall’s “Put another log on the fire.”

Put another logon the fire,                                                                                                                                Cook me up some bacon & some beans
And go out to the car & change the tire
Wash my socks and sew my old blue jeans
Come on baby you can fill my pipe & then go fetch my slippers

And boil me up another pot of tea
Then put another log on the fire babe                                                                                                      And come & tell me why you’re leaving me

Now don’t I let you wash the car on Sunday
And don’t I warn you when you’re gettin’ fat
Ain’t I a gonna take you fishin’ with me someday
Well a man can’t love a woman more than that
And ain’t I always nice to your kid sisterDon’t I take her driving every night
So sit here at my feet cause I like you when you’re sweet
And you know it ain’t feminine to fight

So put another log on the fire
Cook me up some bacon & some beans
Go out to to the car & lift it up & change the tire
Wash my socks & sew my old blue jeans
Come on baby you can fill my pipe & then go fetch my slippers
And boil me up another pot of tea
Then put another log on the fire babe
And come & tell me why you’re leaving me
