Heros in the Neighborhood

I talked before about our great neighborhood (May 30, 2011 and July 28, 2011). Let me just say another word about it on this Valentine’s Day.

Late yesterday afternoon I took Belle, our beautiful little dog, out for her walk. The first thing I heard was a basketball bouncing on our neighbors driveway and back-board. Almost every afternoon I hear the sound of three neighbor boys playing basketball, riding skateboards, or jumping on their trampoline. And, it’s music to my ears.

I love to see kids, and people of any age, having fun! Not only are they developing their athleticism but they are also developing friendship, the habit of team effort, the habit of exercise – which most likely will stay with them all their lives, and, they are doing it our of doors. It can’t get much better than that, but it does! These three 6th and 7th graders are of three distinct races, one Asian, one Black, and one as white as the sheets on your bed! We can and do, at least we should, learn a lot from our kids!

Thank you neighbor boys! I know that you  would never admit it, but you three boys are a great example of real love on this Valentine’s Day. You are my young heroes!
