Meanwhile, very nice mention in the article below! I’ve also been keeping up with your blog – I can view it on my iPad if I have a free minute in between things. I just saw my niece, her husband and their 3 and 1 year old in PA last week and shared a recent entry with them that mentioned eating. The 3 year old is spoiled rotten! Here is one thing I’ve noticed that I don’t think will do her any favors when she grows up – she takes a dance and gymnastics class and after their first recital, they all got a “trophy” presented to them by the teacher, and then the parents (the Dad took time off work to go to the recital) had a very special ice-cream cake celebration for her. For gymnastics, they all got a “medal” after their first competition and had the same ice-cream cake celebration. And while I love my great-niece dearly, I saw the video of the dance recital and while she may turn out to be talented later, she was clearly THE worst dancer among the 3 year olds at this time. It just seems like life isn’t full of medals and awards and celebrations for every little effort or for mediocre performances and the sooner that is learned, maybe the better. How is “special” really “special” when you make a big deal out of everything? Having said that, I think it would still be completely possible for parents and child to enjoy the events. Just my two cents…
