It’s been a long, long time since my wife and I cared for a new born baby, but we are at it again. This time Baby doesn’t cry all night, but it still keeps us up! I remember changing, feeding, rocking, telling stories, (yes, even to a newborn) all done with the hope of seeing a smile in a few weeks. Well, we are now signing, packing, mailing, doing interviews, preparing for book tours, and trying to do our other work all at the same time. I’m not complaining, it was fun with our real baby 40 years ago, and it is fun now. Now we’re working to see the smile of a positive review by a reader.
I suppose if I were not a pediatrician I would not have thought of making the comparison, but it is obvious to me. So like then, some thanks are in order. The gynecologist who delivered the baby, this time the publisher, the nurses who took care of her in the hospital, this time the editors, those who came to visit her in the nursery, now those who attended the first signing, and all those who sent cards. And finally, there is no comparison to those who ordered books. Thanks to all of you for making Messengers in Denim feel so welcome. You are much appreciated.
