As you probably know St. Mary’s Bookstore in Nashville, held a book signing for me Saturday. Julie, the store owner, and her staff set a nice display of books near the front of the store. Even better, they had a large plate of cookies and some hot spiced tea on a near by counter. No one could get to the goodies without walking past Messengers in Denim and Tools for Effective Parenting; it was all perfect.
My publisher tells me that when you have a book signing, take lots of pictures! Get one of each of the store workers looking at the books and especially one with the manager and/owner smiling with one of your books. Have your assistant snap pics of you signing for every customer and others of customers browsing through the books. Then make hard copies for the workers and send them back to the store a few days later. Don’t send the customer pics to anyone without their permission, but ask if they would like you to send them to their e-mail. Those who do, might like to post them on their website or face book page.
Great ideas, but, alas, I forgot to take any pictures. And, my helpful assistant was too busy this time of year with her own life.
I have always been bad at taking photos. So bad in fact that one of our sons gave us a beautiful electronic camera a couple of years ago for Christmas. Mary and I were elated; Mr.Camera was home in a drawer with his batteries run down all day Saturday.
Sure, I had my “smarter than me” phone in my pocket and I reminded myself on the way to St. Mary’s to take some pictures! But, like usual, I forgot to remember. I sold some books, enjoyed too much tea, and ate more cookies than I needed.
I’ll have to see these photos only in my mind. Heck, sometimes that’s the best kind of pictures any how. I won’t be able to bore anyone with a long slide show. So, all in all, it was good.
If you live in Middle Tennessee, you need to spend some time at St. Mary’s! It’s a wonderful place to refresh your spirits especially in this rush and rumble season. Go to st. mary’s bookstore – Google Search
