I have been asked to write a foreword to a book written by Dr. Brad Hoover. To say that Brad is an emergent care physician would be true, but it is more complete to say Brad is a father and a husband. This is the story of how he and his family navigated his son’s fight with brain cancer and their son’s death.
I can’t imagine what it must be like to have a son go through what Liam experienced and then not survive. I only know how I felt after my puppy died some 15 years ago. What I felt was a wrist burn from a pizza pan, they faced Hiroshima.
The book titled, “A Hero in a Bandana, A Family’s Walk through the Valley”, is short, endearing, inspirational and gripping. I hope and pray that I will be able to do justice to this great little book, and pay tribute to Liam, his strong compassionate dad and his family. As a post scrip to Liam’s life the Hoovers have established The Hoover Hope Foundation . Through it they have contributed more than $100,000 to St. Jude’s Hospital, Vanderbilt’s Monroe Carroll Children’s Hospital, and other groups which help children who have cancer and their families.
I’ll tell you when the book comes out. Stay in touch to read this beautiful love story.
